Why Beloved Classics Should Be Left Untouched

There’s something special about a classic film that transcends time and culture. Disney’s Snow White is one of those classics, a film that has been adored for generations. Yet, in recent years, there has been a growing trend of studios “reimagining” these iconic films for modern audiences. While the intention may be to introduce these classics to a new generation, the truth is that sometimes it’s best to leave these beloved films untouched. Snow White has already stood the test of time, and its simplicity and charm are what make it so magical. Attempting to remake or “improve” these films often results in changes that miss the mark. For example, modern updates to Snow White, such as giving the character more agency or shifting the storyline to fit current social trends, can detract from the timeless appeal that made the original work so powerful. The original Snow White told a universal story with straightforward messaging, and trying to add layers that were never there often results in a muddled or disjointed narrative. When Disney leaves these films as they are, they allow the magic of their original form to continue to inspire, without the risk of undermining the charm that made them great in the first place.
